EQ is a Melbourne-based, jazz-fusion group that has been playing together for over eight years, culminating in the long-awaited release of their self-titled debut album EQ on the Australian label Vorticity in 2007. In 2012 they released their much-anticipated follow-up album To Speak.
EQ's music has been shaped and influenced by such jazz-fusion luminaries as Wayne Krantz, Oz Noy, Allan Holdsworth, Chick Corea, Tribal Tech, Weather Report and The Yellowjackets, as well as artists such as Robert Glasper, Robben Ford and John Mayer amongst others, and seeks to meld the music of these artists together into their own organic style.
EQ has played at a variety of venues around Melbourne including Scarlette Bar, The Paris Cat, Spensers Live, live-to-air on PBS Radio, and Bennetts Lane Jazz Club, launching their album there in 2008.
The line-up is Chris Bieniek on guitar, Chris Broomhead on drums and Kit Riley on bass. Regular guests include Daniel Gassin on keys and Andy Sugg on sax.
