Since their formation in 1996, the Penny King Quartet (formerly The Penny Cullen Quartet) have been a regular fixture on the Perth jazz scene, playing at restaurants, hotels and concert venues in Perth and surrounding areas, including venue such as the Perth Jazz Society, Jazz Fremantle, Universal Bar, The Subiaco Hotel, The Oxford Hotel, and many more.
Lead by Penny on vocals and featuring the standout rhythm section of Tom O’Halloran on Keyboards, Peter Jeavons on bass and Michael Pigneguy on drums, the quartet leads you through an exploration of the jazz genre with styles ranging from eclectic arrangements of standards, blues and latin through to modern interpretations on classic tunes.
From the group’s distinctive arrangement of the classic “*Night and Day*” through to contemporary arrangements of James Taylor’s “*Fire and Rain*”, and the Bony M classic “*Sunny*”, the group draws on their varied experiences to produce a unique sound.
The quartet’s sets also feature original tunes by Penny, which have been arranged together with bass player and collaboratorPete Jeavons.
