Description

Originating from Darwin, James has performed throughout Australia and Europe and in between taught at the Canberra School of Music (ANU), The Queensland Conservatorium Of Music (Griffith University) and The Queensland University of Technology.

In 1995 James was the first person to graduate with a Masters of Music majoring in Jazz from an Australian university (Canberra School of Music, ANU).

James is a member of the following ensembles: Cropduster (free jazz), The Lost Cosmonauts, The Subteraneans, and Invisible City (all originals 9 piece).

"James Ryan trio" combines the musical talent of Brendan Clarke, Double Bass and James Hauptmann on Drums.
The group plays mostly original compositions with the odd cover. The trio has just recorded "Long Way Home", a live CD at "505", Sydney, which is to be released through Jazzgroove Records at the end of August 2006.

James Moved to Sydney in 2003 after living and performing in London and Europe for four years.
